OCWSA started in 1976 as a wheelchair basketball program at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. Today it is a flourishing organization operating under a board of directors, elected from its general membership. We have over 40 athletes in our House League program, and are represented in the Quebec Divisions of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League by 3 teams, the Royals, the Jazz, and the Phoenix.

The Association operates competitive and recreational basketball programs to suit the needs and interests of its members. As well, we actively pursue involvement with the community to promote familiarization with wheelchair sports and to educate the public about the abilities and capabilities of persons with a disability. This includes, but is not limited to demonstrations, workshops and public speaking engagements.

The Ottawa Carleton Wheelchair Sports Association (OCWSA) is a charitable organization that supports the grassroots programming in wheelchair basketball. New players are provided with all the tools and information they need to succeed in basketball, from equipment loan to coaching and mentorship. Awareness events, first contact programs, and continued opportunity to participate are all vital components for accomplishing our mission to provide opportunities for people with physical disabilities to be active.
